Redefining Concrete: Scaling Low-Carbon Solutions into Sustainable Revenue

Low-carbon cement and concrete are central to our transformation journey. By increasing the use of secondary cementitious materials (SCMs) such as Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) and Fly Ash, we significantly reduce the CO₂ intensity of cement, concrete, precast products, and pavement solutions.

This is more than a technical improvement it reflects a fundamental shift in how we design, produce, and deliver building materials.

Under Heidelberg Materials’ global methodology, sustainable revenue is measured based on product-level CO₂ intensity performance. To qualify, products must achieve:

  • 30% CO₂ reduction versus the GCCA 2020 baseline for CEM
  • ≤552 kg CO₂ per tonne of cementitious material
  • ≤5.5 kg CO₂ per m³ MPa for concrete

Achieving 88% sustainable revenue in Malaysia demonstrates that sustainability can be scaled into real business value. This milestone was enabled by redesigned concrete mixes, increased SCM utilisation, stronger customer engagement, and the acquisition of ACE Green cement, supported by close collaboration with the APAC CCR team.

Most importantly, it reflects the collective efforts of our teams across the value chain from sales, technical, QC, and operations teams to our batching plants and project sites.

While this achievement supports Heidelberg Materials’ ambition to grow sustainable revenue as a core business driver, the next phase will focus on accelerating value-driven adoption, deeper market engagement, and stronger demand for low-carbon solutions.

Because sustainability succeeds when the entire ecosystem moves forward together!
